CURE Construction Update

Construction workers laying block, hammering nails and painting walls have become almost as common as nurses and doctors at our CURE hospitals over the last few months. There are many construction projects going on within our CURE network. Once they are completed, our hospitals will be able to reach even more children with life-changing care!

We’d like to give you an update.

Prayer Request for the Roarks

phpC0alwvDr. Gary Roark is serving as the medical director of our soon-to-open hospital in Niger.

He, his wife, Karina, and two children, Erica and Daniel, left yesterday for Niger.

The Roarks have shared some prayer requests with us that we’d like to share with you.  We’d encourage you to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to begin their new lives in Niger.  They will be greatly appreciated.

Here are their requests:

  1. First and foremost that we keep our sights set on the eternal purpose of our going, to let the little ones and their families know that God has not forgotten them.
  2. A peace which passes all understanding will pervade our hearts and minds.
  3. For us to find a home quickly in Niamey where all who enter will be blessed.
  4. Health will prevail as we travel and settle.

Haiti Team Working Nonstop

Here is the latest news….

The Haiti Relief Team has set up shop at the Hopital du la Comunaute Haitienne in Port-au-Prince.  It has been working nonstop to save as many lives as possible.  The biggest challenge right now is gangrene has set in with patients.  Dr. Scott Nelson reports everyone on the team is safe.

At this moment, an additional 25+ relief workers and supplies are flying into Haiti. Once they are in the country, they’ll join the CURE relief team.  Other teams are currently being mobilized.

Supplies are being sent from a number of different sources.  MedShare is sending 600 cases of supplies. The CURE hospital in the Dominican Republic is sending supplies both in the air and on land.

We’d like to send a special thanks to the Boulos family, who has been hosting the medical team.  They’ve also been a tremendous help in arranging logistics.

More information is coming; will post as I get more….

Haiti Earthquake

Yesterday, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti near the capital city of Port-Au-Prince.

CURE operates a hospital in the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic in the city of Santo Domingo, and we have a CURE Clubfoot Worldwide program in Haiti.

We have received an update from Steve Bostian, our executive director at the CURE hospital.  Here are some of the main points:

In the D.R., although the quake was felt in Santo Domingo, there were no injuries reported at our hospital.  The city subway was closed as were schools as a precautionary measure, but the tsunami warning that had been issued has been lifted.

CURE has sent two orthopedists to the border to aid with the injured.  They are currently waiting for assignments.  The hospital team is also working with other agencies to provide medical assistance in the country.  Click here to support our emergency response efforts to help the people of Haiti

There is no damage to the city of Cap Haitien where CURE regularly sends mobile teams. We are waiting to hear news from members of our CURE Clubfoot Worldwide staff in Haiti.

Please pray for the people of Haiti.

We will update this info as it becomes available.
