California church partners with CUREkids

First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard, CA, had a special Mother’s Day fundraiser for CUREkids.   “Bountiful Bonnets” raised nearly $2,000 to fund the treatments of two CUREkids.   Ladies wore bonnets to church on Mother’s Day, and men pledged a dollar or more for each bonnet in worship that day.  Read the rest of this entry »

Mead Minutes: Called to travel another path

Good morning from the Meads!!  I am enjoying something completely different this week.  No, I am not skipping my traditional coffee.  I am just enjoying  the coffee in a different location.  We celebrate the special holiday of “Mothers Day” today.  Although I can not spend this day with my mother, I am for the first time in many years able to visit Jana’s mother on this holiday; we are currently in Michigan for a brief time.

Many people ask me and other missionaries about our lives ‘in the field.’  I am often asked if I miss my ‘old life’ as an orthopedic surgeon in private practice.  I find that query a very complex question that can not be truthfully answered with a simple “yes” or “no.”  Read the rest of this entry »

Honoring the mommas

phpBgtMjhI’m coming up on my sixth year with CURE and, to be honest, I got into this for the kids. I get to work for an organization that helps children walk, that saves children from fatal conditions like hydrocephalus, and sends children home without the physical disfigurement they arrived with. Pretty cool. Their smiles have often washed away the frustrations and headaches that can come with the work. Read the rest of this entry »
