An Afghan-American Doctor’s Passion for His Homeland
Dr. Akram Babury is associate director of pulmonary medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York City. In 2007, he went to Afghanistan to volunteer at the CURE International Hospital of Kabul.
The trip to Afghanistan was more than just your everyday international volunteer outing for Dr. Babury. It marked a return to the land of his birth, a country from which had been forced to flee in 1982.
Since his first visit, he’s returned two more times, and his passion for helping the people of his homeland has only grown.
In this video, Dr. Babury talks about his partnership with CURE Kabul and how a late night phone call got it all started.

Dr. Akram (Mohammad) Babury, was also featured by a N.Y. station about his work at CURE Kabul. You can watch it here.
