About Betlehem
Betlehem (Betty) emanates joy despite a deformity that has plagued her for about 6 years. When she was 7 years old, she and her mother noticed that her legs were starting to cause her strange problems. Since then, she has lost the ability to walk on her own, but that can change with a simple surgery.
Betty is an only child, and her father passed away so her mother is supporting her by working at a small business here in Addis Ababa. Although, Betty has had a hard life so far, she aspires to be a doctor, and her favorite subject in school is math. While she was at her first clinic appointment, I never noticed a time when there was not a bright smile on her face.
The operation she will get here at CURE is called a bilateral ATL, which means that both of her ankles will receive 3 tiny cuts where the doctor will work on producing flexibility for them. It's a quick operation, and the recovery shouldn't take her too long. Plus with her attitude, I'm sure she'll be healed in no time!
