About James
Test anxiety is a common experience among students, but I think James’ version is a bit different. This year, James sat for the first of his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams, the most important exams in the Kenyan educational system. During the year that students sit for these exams, their friends and family pray for perfect health and against anything else that could interrupt their studies that year. So it was rather discouraging that James broke his arm, his dominant left arm, after being pushed down by classmates while they scrambled to see results from their first set of tests back in February. Since then, he’s been in and out of the hospital trying to get it treated. And although none of the treatment has seemed to work, at least he passed his exam, and at the top of his class for that matter.
When he was first taken to the hospital, doctors told him he had dislocated his arm, and the only solution was to cast it and give him painkillers. While casted, he would go to the hospital every two weeks for a check up. Later when he complained of pain, the visits to the hospital became even more frequent, which significantly interrupted his studies. After the cast was finally removed, his arm had healed but in a rather angled position. So doctors scheduled him for physiotherapy to try and see if it would straighten up. Fail. At that point, he started learning how to use his right hand to write so that his schooling wouldn’t be affected even more. He told me that he’s still optimistic that his performance at the end of the year will be good, and his aunt, who had accompanied him to our mobile clinic, enthusiastically agreed.
Due to his exams, he’s scheduled to come for his surgery at the end of November. James’ mother is supposed to accompany him, which he could not be happier about. His grandmother has primary raised him, so James treasures any chance he gets to bond with his mother, who has been working in Nairobi, away from him and his grandmother. I couldn’t help but smile thinking that his time with us will be more than a chance to give him the healing he’s been denied. It’ll be a chance to give him the quality time with his mother he’s been denied. If that doesn’t cure test anxiety, I don’t know what will.

JSON RSS- Day 263James's case is complete - Yeiy! he has been discharged from our clinic :-) What the doctors hoped to achieve with his treatment, they were able to by God's grace :-) Am so sorry I was not able to get a photo of him hand as it is now.

Friday June 1, 2012 - Day 150James's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 05/31/2012 - Unfortunately, he was a no show again. I don't know what to assume this time round but let us keep praying that he is doing well.
Thursday April 5, 2012 - Day 95James's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 04/05/2012 - James was a no show at the clinic yesterday :) I want to believe it is because he had just reported into his new high school. Either way I hope to see him in April when we head to Embu again for our mobile clinic. Otherwise, please be praying for him.
Friday February 10, 2012 - Day 77James's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 02/09/2012 - James did not show up for his appointment. None of us know why, but as soon as I do, I will let you know! Until then, we're praying that he'll show up at our next mobile clinic in Embu.

Friday November 25, 2011 - Day 18James went through another session of "manipulation under anesthesia" then he was re-casted. He is now hoping to get discharged, so let's wait and see if the doctors say anything about discharging him!

Day 14James found his way to us safely yesterday & was ready to head into the OR today! Thankfully, we didn't have to make any cuts to fix his problem...he just needed a little good ol' fashioned man power to stretch his arm out. So while James was under anesthesia, Dr. Mongoli pressured his arm back and forth then casted it straight. Now James is resting up in the ward! http://bit.ly/sPX37P
