Rodesha lives in Kenya and has a foot deformity, and in Kenya the sort of specialty medical care Rodesha needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Rodesha who have little hope for the future.

Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Rodesha grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Rodesha has a curable disability! But you can change Rodesha's life forever.

About Rodesha

I think at some point, we all come down with something health related that we’re convinced doesn’t merit a doctor’s visit. And sometimes, it doesn’t. But for the times it does, the phrase “should’ve, would’ve, could’ve” comes up to bite us. Rodesha’s mom Maureen “should‘ve, would’ve, could’ve” sought treatment for her daughter’s foot condition 5 years ago, but didn’t. She just assumed that 7-year-old Rodesha was going through a phase & would get better on her own. But of course, things are often clearer in retrospect.

After first noticing the problems Rodesha was having with her left arm and foot, Maureen never consulted anyone. But as the years passed, her little girl became a young lady, and Maureen’s assumption about Rodesha “growing out of her issues” needed some re-evaluation. Thankfully, God brought another perspective their way in the form of an American who sponsors the church they attend. The sponsor knew about CURE and got Maureen the information she needed about our mobile clinic.

Now the two can leave the “should’ve, would’ve, could’ve” reminder behind as they look forward to Rodesha’s surgery. She’ll be getting her Achilles tendon lengthened, which should get her walking soundly on both feet, instead of just one. Rodesha actually told me that despite her problem with her left foot, she still has the courage to jump rope with her 5th grade schoolmates, determined to keep up using just her good foot. Unfortunately, her disability has prevented her from keeping up with her twin sister Fensinsia, who is a grade ahead of her in school. But I think we can help her jump that gap. We should, and will, and can give her the treatment that’s been waiting for her since she was 7, and I thank God for the opportunity to do so.

  3. Day 87 Rodesha's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 05/03/2012 - Because of a government hospital strike, we had to cancel our mobile clinic yesterday, and now we can't get in touch with Rodesha! But we're not about to give up, especially since she has a cast that needs to come off. So please be praying we can connect with her soon, and until then, I've moved her treatment date to our next clinic in May :)

  6. Day 48 Rodesha's surgery went great! It was quick & simple, yet made a huge change for her. Dr. Chege made 3 incisions along the back of her ankle to lengthen her tight Achilles tendon. He then made another incision in the arch of her foot & at the start of her big toe to release some other stiffness. That's all it took, and her foot evened out! They made a mold of her leg for a future brace, then casted her up & rolled her back to the ward to recover :) http://bit.ly/znvtlB
