Dominic lives in Kenya and has a leg deformity, and in Kenya the sort of specialty medical care Dominic needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Dominic who have little hope for the future.
Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Dominic grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Dominic has a curable disability! But you can change Dominic's life forever.

About Dominic

Dominic and his big brother Michael are the first in their family to have ever travelled by matatu (a fourteen passenger vehicle used for public transport in Kenya) away from their rural home in Kapenguria, a town in the rift valley area of Kenya. Though the trip was more for medical reasons, they still count it as an accomplishment. After getting sick with malaria, Dominic received an injection that was meant to help him out. And it did help the malaria, but left an area of stiff muscles in its wake, a result of what doctors describe as injection neuritis. So now his Thankfully, the condition has not stopped him from doing much, but it’s the uncertainty of not knowing what the problem is and how much further it may extend that worries them.

Currently a first grader, Dominic only understands his local language of Pokot that’s taught in his school, so my communication was mainly with his older brother. Michael’s prayer for his little brother is that he will be able to complete his elementary education successfully, learn all other languages, and have a shot at getting through high school.

As I spoke to them, it was obvious that neither really understood the procedure Dominic is scheduled for. But Michael told me that he has faith enough in our doctors that they will relieve his brother’s discomfort. Our plan is to transfer some of his tendons and maybe lengthen some others in order to release the stiffness. And God-willing, he’ll be back to his pre-malaria self soon.

  11. Day 51Well after waiting anxiously almost two full days we finally got Dominic squeezed in today! Doctors did something I have never seen before. They grabbed a tendon that originally went down the the front of the tibia and down toward the inside of the foot and redirected it to the outside of the foot. In doing this it will help support Dominic as he learns to walk with a straightened foot. Keep praying for him as is now recovering!! http://bit.ly/NgBVQx
