About Alick

“They” say it’s bad luck to say “good luck” but it’s good luck to say, “break a leg.” Well if the literal term is any luck, Alick Zulu, our newest CUREkid should have all the luck in the world.

When Alick was 7 years old, he took a pretty nasty spill and broke his leg. After he was taken to the hospital, his broken leg was put in a cast and everything was thought to be ok. About a year later the active young boy broke his leg for a second time then later that same year, broke it for a third time. After the third break, his parents began to worry about their son’s state. After the third plaster was removed, the bone was protruding from the leg, preventing Alick from being able to straighten it. Now the pain is so intense, Alick must walk with a cane, and the leg is so stiff he can’t move faster than a slow walk.

When asked what he missed the most and what he was looking forward to after his surgery, his face lit up as he said, “I can’t wait to play futbol.” After his surgery at CURE, ALick won’t need luck, his opponents of the futbol field will.

  8. Day 404Alick is in recovery at CURE Malawi - Alick's surgery went well yesterday. They took the old fixtures out and put a new one in, one which will stabilize his leg and keep his bone from bending again!

  9. Day 403Alick's treatment date has been changed to 07/16/2012 - Alick is here and he had surgery today. He had previously had a plate placed in his right femur, but his bones are weak from malnutrition and started to curve.So today they took the plate out and put a nail, which looks more like a rod, in his femur to straighten it. Keep him in your prayers as he recovers.

  14. Day 208Alick's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 01/09/2012 - All of the clinics are canceled until January 9th, so we will not have to opportunity to meet with Alick at least until then. Hopefully with the coming of the new year, Alick too will finally come!

  19. Day 55Alick was sent to Feed the Children. Where he's been stuck for a few days w no transport. His leg needs more room than the car can provide. Not such a bad thing! Yummy food and a warm bed, can't complain. We'll make a visit to the center and get you guys some pics of his progress! Keep him in your prayers!
