Mudawilako's Case is Complete!

When I was a baby, my sister would pile a mountain of stuffed animals on me while I slept in my crib in hopes that I’d either stop breathing or when she freaked out that maybe I couldn’t breathe and removed all the animals, I would have disappeared. Fortunately I didn’t stop breathing nor did I disappear and my sister has since apologized and we are now the best friends with only some flashbacks of being smothered by Pooh bear. With five other kids in the house, Mudawilako, our newest CUREkid, finds herself fighting off more than just stuffed animals and accepting plenty of apologies everyday.

When Mudawilako was only five months old, her mother left her in the care of her older sister while mom went for a bath. After that fact, the story gets a bit blurry as many stories involving guilty siblings do. But what we do know is that somehow, baby Mudawilako rolled from where she was laid into a fire pit, burning most of her lower half. Though in reality it was no one persons fault, Mudawilako’s siblings still feel the heavy guilt of “making their sister this way.” Now two and a half years after the accident Mudawilako has dealt with the repercussions and her new disability. Though friends don’t laugh at her, and people in her village don’t ostracize her, (I wouldn’t either w five older, tougher siblings) it’s her siblings who have not been able to cope with what happened to their little sister under their watch.

There have been plenty of times I’ve played the, “remember when you tried to smother me to death” card on my sister, and usually it buys me at least a free ice cream cone but my guess is all these kids are looking for a little more than Mudawilako to joke it off and an ice cream cone payback. But now Mudawilako is booked for surgery and they can finally put it all behind them, until she wants ice cream!
