Hydrocephalus

Judith’s birth was a joy to her parents. But four days after being discharged from hospital she started to show signs that something was wrong. Her endless crying, convulsions and high fever panicked her parents. Their anxiety increased with neighbours saying Judith was suffering from epilepsy and should be taken to a witch doctor.

Her mother decided to shun tradition and seek treatment at the local hospital. After two weeks she was finally referred to CURE Uganda for specialist treatment for hydrocephalus.

She was amazed to see so many other children with ‘big heads’ and was encouraged speaking to CURE staff and other mothers at the hospital. After successful surgery Judith recovered quickly. Her mum returned home with a healthy baby girl who thanks to the treatment available at CURE Uganda now has a bright future ahead of her.
