Dr. Rick Gardner recognised by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health for paediatric orthopaedic treatments

CURE Ethiopia Medical Director Dr. Rick Gardner recently received recognition from the Minister of Health Dr. Lia Tadesse for his contributions to the growth of orthopaedic treatment in Ethiopia.

Dr Gardner has served in CURE Ethiopia since 2013, first as an orthopaedic surgeon and soon adding the role of Medical Director to his duties. In both positions, Dr Gardner has been instrumental in not only transforming the lives of hundreds of children through surgical treatment but also in the training and development of Ethiopian doctors and orthopaedic surgeons through CURE Ethiopia’s residency and fellowship programmes. Dr Gardner has played a large role in bringing world-renowned surgeons and medical experts to Ethiopia in order to provide workshops and training for the CURE and Ethiopian medical communities.

In a generous 45 minute meeting, Dr. Lia Tadesse took time to recognize Dr Gardner’s passionate investment in Ethiopian orthopedics and his advocacy for paediatric orthopaedics across the country. Dr. Lia Tadesse presented Dr Gardner with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

“Rick has made measurable impact in expanding paediatric orthopaedic services and training in Ethiopia. He has advanced the training programme at CURE Ethiopia so that it becomes regional. He was instrumental in the creation of the fellowship programme at CURE Ethiopia and has connected CURE Ethiopia with several internationally known sub-specialists and universities to teach and assist complicated cases.” – Adey Abate, CURE Ethiopia Executive Director

CURE Ethiopia is extremely appreciative of the support and partnership between the hospital and the Ministry of Health in order to provide treatment to children in desperate need.
